For Mother’s Day, I made homemade burgers for the whole family (this Jamie Oliver’s recipe is definitely for keeps and I noe some of you are big fans). My sis baked chocolate chip cookies and my mum made sago gula melaka.

We didn’t get a cake. Instead, I made “Kek Batik” (Batik cake), my 1st attempt after getting 1st hand experience when Nin made it for Rina’s birthday on Labour Day.
Kek Batik is a very simple recipe, makes up of butter, eggs, sugar, cocoa powder and Marie biscuits. The cake, when sliced, has that “earthy, batik look” hence the name. Oh, it requires no baking.
Here’s the recipe for you to try. Gotta thank Mama Min (the recipe originated from her, I think) and Nin.
1 block of unsalted butter (I used Anchor’s)
4 eggs (beat well, as little bubbles as possible)
1 and half cup of sugar
1 cup of cocoa powder
1 cup of water
400g of Marie biscuits (break them into pieces, halves or quarters)
1. Using low heat, melt butter. I suggest using a big wok coz things tend to get a lil messy.
2. Pour in the eggs and stir well.
3. Pour sugar bit by bit, stir till sugar dissolves.
4. Mix in cocoa powder, bit by bit. Mix well till there are no lumps.
5. When mixture thickens, add water. Can increase the heat a little.
6. Stir well till mixture slightly thickens.
7. Put in the biscuit bits, bit by bit and stir well, making sure every piece is covered with the chocolate mixture.
8. Pour the mixture into a container (deep baking tray etc), layer by layer. Make sure each layer is well flattened and the biscuit pieces are well distributed.
9. Store in refrigerator till mixture hardens.
10. To serve, cut in slices. Goes well with strawberries, ice-cream and marshmallows.

Happy trying and eating!
